Man's best friend

by louidog @ Sunday, 09. Mar, 2008 - 00:28:32

Have you been watching Crufts??

I just love to watch this every year. Those doggies are just so cute and I want them all. My dog thinks it's great fun to run up to the telly and bark back at the show dogs. Daft as a brush he is!

Sadly, Crufts will probably encourage so many people to rush out and buy a puppy. That's great but so many people do not realise that owning a dog isn't just about stroking them and throwing a ball for them to chase. We adopted our latest dog 2 years ago. He was given up for adoption as his owners could not care for him. We are very thankful they realised dog owning wasn't for them. He is the most wonderful dog and has enriched our lives so much.

Owning a dog means lots of walks, feeding, grooming, vets bills and most importantly....commitment! Our dog is out very early in the morning, then again at lunch time again in the evening. He probably gets about 4 hours on average of walking a day, sometimes more. For this he is the most wonderfully natured dog, faithfull and well behaved.

He askes for nothing more than a good walk, play times, food and lots of love and cuddles. His love is unconditional, he is always there with a lick and cuddle when you get home. Always ready to cuddle up on a cold night.

Whoever said dogs are mans best friend was so right! :)

I have just got back from a week away and was fed up when I realised I'd missed most of Crufts!
Still, I'm looking forward to the big night tonight - though I expect my dog will sleep all the way through it.

I missed the end of the first nights show so I was pretty fed up about that!

Still, tonight's the night....

I watched it too - still sniffy over that girl who won the phone-in vote. And I always want to adopt more dogs when I hear of all the greyhounds and other kicked-out dogs that need a home. But you are right, they need a lot of time and effort, although it is thoroughly worth it.

Our latest dog is a rescue doggie too...don't they make the most wonderful pets too!
We are so thankful that our dogs previous owners couldn't be bothered with him and put him up for adoption....their loss is our gain :)

They certainly do make wonderful pets.

We have a greyhound that was going to be put down if no one took him in because he could not race anymore, and a whippet x who was abandoned by its owners because he was a handful - what did they expect he was only 6 months old!!

:)

my mum wants one of those chihuahuas.....argh

I know everyone has the right to like certain breeds but....for me I prefer a dog that has a bit of charisma and style.
