I'm taking a sabatical

by louidog @ Wednesday, 26. Mar, 2008 - 22:51:27

OK folks, that's it.....I am giving up on my thread writing on here for a while.

You never know, I may pop in to your blog and add a comment or 5 if the urge should take me so keep 'em peeled. Then again, I might reincarnate myself as some tall leggy supermodel! :**:

Bon nuit!

Tea or coffee?

by louidog @ Tuesday, 25. Mar, 2008 - 23:11:23

So are you a tea or coffee kinda person?

Break times in the staff room are hysterical. There are those who charge in wanting their "fix" of coffee there and then show off if the water heater isn't warm enough. Then the tea drinkers arrive expecting to see a nice hot pot of tea already and waiting for them. If the pot of tea is made then that is the reason the water heater isn't hot enough. Oooh that frustrates them you know. They all stand there muttering about how this is their break time blah, blah, blah!

Recently someone decided everyone at work should go on a healthy eating campaign and got funding from the boss man to have a fully stocked fruit bowl in the staff room for everyone. Great idea but....she didn't think we should be eating cakes and will take the cakes away and hide them from us 8| How stroppy is that!!! Does she not realise we live on cakes and other assorted goodies on a day to day basis. How else would we survive the week!

Trouble is....we have all seen her sneaking bits of cake or eating chocolate when she thinks no one is looking! So, what shall we do? We have had the "lets put Ex-lax out and let her eat that" and "we can rig a camera up and get photographic evidence and confront her with it" comments.

What should we do??

Weddings!

by louidog @ Monday, 24. Mar, 2008 - 16:55:54

Weddings!

2 years ago we were invited along to a distant family members wedding. Not to the actual church affair but to the evening part of the wedding where we all had to buy our own drinks and the food was non-existant! We were sent an invitation clearly stating that they did not want any household items as gifts but would be very happy receiving money towards buying a new home. I was a little taken back to be honest. In my day you got what you were given even if it did mean 3 sets of fish knives and 2 toasters! Hubby told me I was being silly about thinking they were being a tad rude for being so to the point regarding the gift, and we ended up giving money to them as a gift. 2 years late needless to say the couple have split up and I can't say I was surprised.

Now call me old fashioned but.... when we got married some 20 something years ago we paid for more or less everything ourselves and wanted to share with our families and friends our new life and how much we loved each other. Material things never come into it. We just wanted the day to be the most wonderful day and it was just the most fantastic day. Seeing as we are both born and bred Londoners we laid on the most fabulous food and drink for our guests to enjoy including jellied eels and pie and mash. We had well over 300 guests at our wedding and never once were they asked to pay for anything!

The reason for this speaking out aloud from me is to ask what you all think. Londoners tend to work on the "if you can't afford it you don't ask everyone along to the wedding" and to never ask anyone to pay for a thing at a wedding. I have been to some of my relations from different parts of the country where we have been given the first drink then expected to pay for the rest all night but food was laid on. Then there was the wedding that we all ended up in the chip shop as we were all so starving hungry as no food at all was laid on. You should have seen the face of the chip shop owner when we all turned up wearing posh hats and corsages.

What are your views on this as I am really curious!

Easter weekend seems to inspire every DIY addict in the land to rush out and buy planks of wood, paint and heaven only knows what else. Have you seen the queues in B&Q today? Only the brave or very desperate will venture into any of those DIY shops over this weekend if they have any sense.

This weekend I have heard the road come alive with the sound of hammering and drilling. I have also amused myself just watching the cars drive out of B&Q. How on earth do you get those big garden fence panels home in your Clio?? What about the timber decking poking out of the sunroof? Madness!

I will not be joining in with the decorating this weekend. Instead I shall put my feet up and enjoy the break....oh and the snow!! The weatherman says there will be plenty overnight. Lets see if it happens eh!

I am off to try to eat my bodyweight in chocolate.....

Quiet again?

by louidog @ Saturday, 22. Mar, 2008 - 23:45:26

Is it just me or does it seem very quiet around here yet again?

Seems even more folk are up and leaving for pastures new. Isn't it sad when some people have put so much into their blogging and have entertained so many and then just up and leave.

We can work it out.....and did at last!

by louidog @ Tuesday, 18. Mar, 2008 - 19:05:50

Isn't that a Beatles song? Paul must have known something way back then. Do you think he knew Heather would be sent to upset his world?

Well, what can I say about this carry on other than thank goodness it's over....well, unless Heather finds something else to campaign about that is! I would say that Paul has got off lightly after paying Heather just under 25 million squideroonies to get rid of her. What is she on?!?! That speech she gave yesterday that went on and on for about 15 mintues was just plain weird. She does not want the proceedings made public! Really? She does not want B to travel 2nd class! Oh? She does not want B's school made public! If anyone should want to find all this information out out then it's not exactly rocket science is it. How easy would it be to find out! Trust me, I'm no DCI of the Yard but I'm pretty sure it would no problem at all. I wonder what it is our Heather is trying to hide now?

Oh and while I think of it....can someone please tell Paul not to dye his hair that colour anymore. It is so unflattering to him. As you get older Paul, your hair colour gets lighter and that includes dyed hair! 88|

...and he howled!

by louidog @ Monday, 17. Mar, 2008 - 23:08:55

2am - still howling!

3am - still howling!

4am - yep, still howling! :-/

5am - ooh dear, now I want to murder! :lalala:

6am - >:XX

So, you will by now have noticed that the dog never slept all night...and nor did we! He howled and barked all night. I remember nodding off and then sitting upright in bed to see the dog standing on the chest of drawers in the bedroom - twice!! 8| How on earth did he get up there!!! Our dog is so laid back that he slept through the night and probably not noticing a thing. Lucky dog!

So fingers crossed that the dog is so tired after keeping the street awake all night that he will sleeeeeeeeeep for hours tonight!

*yawn*

How much is that doggy in the window??

by louidog @ Monday, 17. Mar, 2008 - 00:10:12

"Will you look after my little doggie while I go away for a few days?"

Now, this is fine, normally.....we do have a friends doggie who comes to stay once or twice a year but this weeks guest is a new visitor to Chez Daisy. He is the sweetest toy poddle and we thought he'd be no trouble at all.....

He arrived at 8pm tonight with his suitcase of clothes and other associated goodies. How many outfits he has is unbelievable...he even has a dressing gown! Hubby told me in no uncertain terms that no way would he be dressing the dog up to go out for his walkies! I nearly choked on my hot chocolate when he lifted his head and started howling in the funniest little squeak you have ever heard! I laughed so much that I had belly ache....but, it's now midnight and he is still howling :??: Will it go on all night?? OMG, my poor neighbours!! My poor nerves!

I'll keep you posted.....

In those days gone by.....

by louidog @ Saturday, 15. Mar, 2008 - 12:14:35

I have been thinking today about the days of old and how my mum and nan used to do certain things on certain days of the week.

I remember Mondays was always laundry day. They would do the washing, hang it out to dry and then if the weather had been kind they would iron everything. If the weather wasn't kind, and that was more often than not, the house would have damp clothes hanging everywhere. Back in those days people didn't have washing machines and driers. Then something changed. Mum started to do the laundry on a Friday. She would meet up with a friend at the launderette on the corner of the road. They would both sit and natter while the washing whizzed round and round. I would go along as mums friend also had a daughter of my age. If we were lucky we would get a bag of chips while our mums nattered. Oooh I can nearly smell the nostril awakening, mouth watering smell of the vinegar now!

Monday was always cold meat left over from the Sunday roast with mash potatos and veg. Hmmm, yummy! Tuesdays were meat pie. On Wednesday nan would cook us a wonderful casserole. Perhaps liver and bacon or even a lamb stew with pearl barley. Thursday was normally chops or breast of lamb. Fridays, well Fridays was always fish of some description. Nan would cook the most wonderful cod roe or fish cakes. Saturdays were the day that mum went shopping so there was always something really nice to eat. Mince meat and dumplings or meat pie for example. If we were really lucky nan might have sent round a spotty dick or jam roly-poly to have with hot, thick custard.

Sunday, well Sunday was always without fail a roast dinner complete with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, bread sauce, onion sauce, apple sauce or mint sauce depending on what roast joint we were having. Sunday tea was always at nans. My aunt and her family would arrive and we would all sit down to a lovely spread. Cockles that the kids would get the dubious pleasure of shelling. Sometimes there were meat or fish paste sandwiches. I always laugh now when I think of those paste sandwiches. Horrible things they were! There would always be cucumber sliced very thinly and in a lovely green glass bowl in vinegar along with another matching bowl of beetroot. Celery would stand to attention in a celery jug too! Then the best part was the cakes nan made....ooh now they were to die for. Victoria sponge, fruit cake or even a trifle!

I wish I were back in those carefree and wonderfully happy days now! Somethings don't always change for the better do they. Things have to change and move on but sometimes, just sometimes it's not always how we ever imagined is it? Perhaps I am just reminissing too much and just want to be with all those I love and miss as they are no longer with me.

Life is tough at times!

Problem solved....I hope!

by louidog @ Friday, 14. Mar, 2008 - 23:34:39

You may remember the pesky squirrels pinching all the bird nuts a while back. Well, this has become a major concern for me and I will admit to being a tad OTT about the problem. I have been so fed up with thinking the birds were eating all the nuts only to discover Sid the Squirrel having a picnic on them! :##

I have shouted, banged on the kitchen window, set the dog on the squirrels and even stopped putting the nuts out but still Sid comes back. So now, fed up with my getting stressed with Sid and his mates hubby went out and got me a rather large erection for feeding my birds.

I got home from work and hubby called to ask what I thought of the new thing in the garden. I looked long and hard from the kitchen window and couldn't see a thing :??: I went out to investigate and there it was, laying on the grass. I picked it up, and tried to erect it again. Instead of the pole going where it should it just jumped out and attacked me. I now have a very large cut and lump on the inside of my lip where the thing bashed me in the face. I also got hit on the head by the very large peanut feeder. I could have lost a tooth as it really clonked me hard in the mouth!

Hubby returned home with a club hammer or whatever and sorted the problem out and now the feeder stands proud out at the end of the garden. I have to say, it's gigantic!!! It must be 7 ft tall. Best of all.....Sid has not been able to climb up it to nick the food! ;)

The birds love this feeder and I now have a family of Robins, tits all of all colours who visit and even sparrows are returning. I am delighted to see all the birds feeding and even more amused to see Sid sitting there trying to plot his next raid.....

Parents!

by louidog @ Thursday, 13. Mar, 2008 - 23:26:30

Today has been one of the maddest days I've had for a while! I have to say I am totally frazzled.

It was my class assembly today. Great you might say but not so for the poor teacher!! I have spent hours worrying about it and trying to think of more ways to entertain the parents. The children were just fab and everything went to plan...well for the children it did. Not so for the parents.

Have you ever been to a school show? If not, then you've not lived. The assembly was due to start at 10.15am as all the parents were all told via a letter.

At 9.35am the first parent arrived, closely followed by parent number 2. The both tried to come into the hall to sit and watch the rehersal....I did say try!! No way were they coming in!! They only wanted to secure their front row seat and I wasn't playing that game so packed them off again! Goodness me, they were acting like children by arguing outside the hall. Not exactly the example to set is it! Some complained to the Head, others to the school secretary.

The assembly went really well and was liked by everyone (I hope!) and the children were all over the place for the rest of the day!

Ding ding!

Please return my bin!

by louidog @ Monday, 10. Mar, 2008 - 20:10:22

Anyone seen my bin?

It was last seen at 11pm last night sitting in the front garden minding it's own business.

I fear it may be on it's way to some far off street to live in another front garden. It has it's house number on though so perhaps some kind soul will return it to it's rightful owner very soon.

Hold on to the dog.....

by louidog @ Sunday, 09. Mar, 2008 - 18:05:29

....there's a lot of wind and rain on the way!

Well, so they say! I don't know about you but ever since "that" day in 1987 when we had a "bit" of wind the old weather people get a little over excited when forcasting bad weather.

I shall be keeping my eyes open for anything unusual flying over this way and will keep a note of said item/s just incase any of you out there in Blog Land loose anything.

Ohh I feel like Mary Poppins today.....

Man's best friend

by louidog @ Sunday, 09. Mar, 2008 - 00:28:32

Have you been watching Crufts??

I just love to watch this every year. Those doggies are just so cute and I want them all. My dog thinks it's great fun to run up to the telly and bark back at the show dogs. Daft as a brush he is!

Sadly, Crufts will probably encourage so many people to rush out and buy a puppy. That's great but so many people do not realise that owning a dog isn't just about stroking them and throwing a ball for them to chase. We adopted our latest dog 2 years ago. He was given up for adoption as his owners could not care for him. We are very thankful they realised dog owning wasn't for them. He is the most wonderful dog and has enriched our lives so much.

Owning a dog means lots of walks, feeding, grooming, vets bills and most importantly....commitment! Our dog is out very early in the morning, then again at lunch time again in the evening. He probably gets about 4 hours on average of walking a day, sometimes more. For this he is the most wonderfully natured dog, faithfull and well behaved.

He askes for nothing more than a good walk, play times, food and lots of love and cuddles. His love is unconditional, he is always there with a lick and cuddle when you get home. Always ready to cuddle up on a cold night.

Whoever said dogs are mans best friend was so right! :)

Bluuurgh.....

by louidog @ Saturday, 08. Mar, 2008 - 00:15:37

I've not been well

I've had the galloping rumbling belly, felt as if I have been run over and other associated things....yes, you've guessed it, I've had the dreaded virus thing that seems to be going around. Been feeling poorly for a few days and then last night my dinner reintroduced itself to me and continued doing so all day today too! I've felt proper sorry for myself as I so hate being sick :'( The joys or working with children. The only things they really like to share with me are their germs :-/

Now seeing as how I've not been well I have not dared to put anything other than water pass my lips. I have just sat and listened to hubby eating a bag of crisps. Not only did I want to mug him for them but I also had to shout at him for the noise he was making. Have you ever listened to someone eating a packet of those Kettle Crips? My goodness they are just soooo loud. All I wanted to do was read my book in peace and quiet!

Stand back everyone, I don't want anyone else catching my germs although it seems as poor Deana already has her own germs :`(

*just off to paint a white cross on my front door*

March already and still not booked a holiday.

by louidog @ Tuesday, 04. Mar, 2008 - 15:38:00

March already!
I know we all say "just where does the time go?" but, just where does it whizz past and go to? Seems like yesterday we were all charging round like loonies getting all the Christmas shopping sorted out and now here we are in March.

I have been doing lots of thinking and I remember when I was a child the winters were so cold that we really had to wrap up but nowdays we don't have to. Is it global warming or do I just have an extra layer of fat to protect me? Somedays I go out with the dog and the temperature in the car says it's 15 degrees. How mad is that when it's still winter!

So when can we expect the first warm sunshine on our skin? I don't know about you but I always find a nice place in the sun to sit and take in a few rays. How nice does the sun feel on your face? Soooo nice!

Oh well, back to looking at holidays on the internet......
