Cars......

by louidog @ Sunday, 25. Nov, 2007 - 15:52:09

Today I thought I'd have a natter about cars. I just love nice cars, you know the ones that I can never afford but dream of owning. You too? Some men think it's a bit odd that a lady likes cars. They can't quite understand it. I have done numerous track days, and have even driven round the Top Gear track too and loved every inch of it. I watch Top Gear now and know every bend of that track and love it. The tyre noise, the thrill of going round corners that fast that you leave half your tyres there....oooh the adrenalin rush of it all! Hang on, perhaps I'm The Stig?!?!

Well, a few years back I saved hard and got my first brand spanking, never been owned before, new car. I ordered it in the April for collection on 1st September. I wanted to go and collect it at midnight only to be told "ooooh we don't do that any more"!!! I was so upset and was given an appointment to take delivery of my car at 4.30pm on 1st September. Now the wait from April to September was a killer and I would get so excited about my new car. I drove the sales assistant mad as I kept changing the spec of what I wanted too. That didn't matter too much as my car wasn't getting built until August so I could change as often as I liked. Of course they were getting lots of money from me too so didn't mind either. Anyway, August arrived, we had a fab holiday down near Gassin in the South of France, and I returned home to count the days off the calender.

1st September finally arrived! I went to work and it was the longest day of my life. I was hyperventilating by time I got to the dealership and arrived far too early and just paced up and down outside. My car was there on the forecourt waiting for me and was gleaming in the sunshine. I did all the paperwork and couldn't wait to get out of the forecourt and drive my new baby. What a wonderful feeling! I normally buy cars that are about 8 months or so old but this was a very special car as no one else had driven it. What a wonderful 3 years I had with that car....I loved it to bits. Then came the 3 year old thing where you have to get an MOT. I went off to the garage to get a pre MOT check only to be told I needed some work doing on the car (2 new tyres) and to renew the warranty in all it would cost me about £600. I wandered over to the show room and there was an ex demo car....beautiful it was too. 3 months old, full spec and cheaper than it would have cost new. So what did I do? Yep asked for a trade in price. Guess what I ended driving home in?! Soooooo, I got the new car!

I hated this car. Same as my previous car but for some reason I didn't like it. Isn't that odd. I thought that it was just because I was so used to the other one. Perhaps I was missing it? I don't know what it was but in the year I owned it I had only driven it for 2,000 miles. Terrible waste I thought so sold it and just got a little run about. Oh god, what a wrong move! This new car has been the most unreliable car I have ever owned. I got it at the end of August and to date it has been in the garage more than it has been outside my house. It has had a new starter motor, 2 new door locks, a new timing chain, a new electric ignition system, a new ignition barrel and a few other minor things changed. When the RAC men have come to tow me to the gargage they have all got out of their vans and said "ooh it's strange for this make to break down, they are normally very reliable"! Trust me, this one is the Friday afternoon car. The one that was slung together with a hope and a prayer I think. Today....I got in the car and now the radio/CD player has packed in :##

So, it's got to go! I just have to change this car.....

I have test driven the Audi Quattro TT and fell instantly in love with that. The new Mini is high on my list too. I did even get bold and test drove a Boxster but that was just silly as no way on the earth could I afford that but boy did I have fun with it!

Look out for Daisy in a new car......

The distant crash of breaking glass.....

by louidog @ Sunday, 18. Nov, 2007 - 16:08:49

I trecked off to the Tesco recycling machine the other day with bags of tins, bottles and plastic containers. My council do collect recyling but sadly they are not geared up for plastic as yet. Heaven only knows why but they have told everyone this will happen in 2008 sometime. I decided that if the council won't collect my plastic then I would take it to the recylcing depot and earn some Tesco "green points" for my troubles too. After a few trips with plastic I started to include tins and then soon thought that seeing as I am going anyway why don't I take everything with me and earn loadsa points. My son loves to come along and more or less hyperventilates at the prospect of throwing everything into the machine.

I have to admit that there is another reason I take the bottles too  Now if like us you like a sip or three of the old falling over water, with ice of course, the recycling bin ends up looking rather full. It also probably makes the neighbours think we spend most evenings drunk. Sadly we don't! So picture the scene. It's Thursday morning, the recycling bin is at the gate ready for collection. The lorry comes down the road and stops at our house. The bin is picked up and sorted into different sections of the lorry and crash....crash....bang....crash yet again. :-/

Have you ever heard the sound of so many glass bottles breaking? I am sure we have more glass to recycle than anyone in our road and I am actually a little embarrased by that fact!! I just cringe or make sure I have left for work so as not to meet face to face with any of my neighbours while this collection is going on.

Pass the brandy please......

Christmas is coming....

by louidog @ Tuesday, 13. Nov, 2007 - 13:06:35

Didn't you know!
My children are making sure I don't forget by leaving lots of little "reminders" about the house. There are torn out newspaper articles about this game and that computer and then the dreaded X-Box, PS3 and the ever so hard to track down Wii. I have even been told by my son that he won't mind waiting until after Christmas if it means he can have a Wii. Can you imagine him not getting a present to open on Christmas morning! Even worse, could you imagine him having to wait weeks while the UK's stock is replenished again!!! It brings me out in a cold sweat just thinking about it.

I don't know about you but the whole Christmas thing isn't enjoyable for us mums. There's the shopping to get, the presents to buy, the worry of who to invite over for dinner and worse of all....do we really want a turkey after seeing the latest outbreak of bird flu. To be honest that has totally put me off eating turkey.

Oh well, off to write the dreaded Christmas cards and take out a mortgage for the stamps!

Bah Humbug! :-/
